The answer’s in this article too! So don’t get confused about Islamic clothing for men and learn some new stuff today!
What is a thobe : definition
A mens thobe, also spelled tobe or thawb, is a muslim cloth that we could describe as a robe. It is worn by men, mostly in Arab countries. To be more precise, it comes from the Arabian Peninsula (Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates, Sultanate of Oman, and Yemen).
However, it is commonly worn in the Middle East, North Africa, and some countries in East and West Africa.
Islamic clothing for men must be modest, and should not go below the ankles. For this reason, the thobe is an ample and long tunic which does not reveal the shapes of these gentlemen. Thus, they can perform the prayer dressed in this outfit.
The name also differs depending on the country. In Syria and Oman, it is called dishdasha. In Kuwait and Qatar, we call it thobe, or thawb. And in the Maghreb, which includes Algeria, Morocco and Tunisia, it is called gandoura, or even djellaba. The United Arab Emirates also use the word gandoura. Finally, in Saudi Arabia, we refer to it as qamis or kamis.
In general, the mens thobe is made of cotton. A “winter” version can also be made out of wool. Emirati thobe is satin. Its sleeves are usually long and its most common color is white. That is the traditional and oldest version. The style of the thawb, particularly the sleeves and the collar, varies slightly. It depends on the regions of the Gulf it comes from.
The difference between thobe and jubbah
We explained what a Mens thobes is. Now, what is a men’s jubbah? Both are Islamic clothing, and the major difference between a thobe and a jubbah is…Nothing. Actually, it is the exact same piece of clothing! The only difference is in the name. As we mentioned it previously, each Muslim country has its way to call this garment. But at the end of the day, a thobe is a jubbah, and a jubbah is a thobe!
Both names essentially stem from different places and languages. Thobe is for Arabs, in Middle East, whereas Jubba is for Pakistan and Bangladesh. Whichever name you like to use, whatever name you want to call it, there is absolutely no right or wrong. Both are correct !

Thobe: a versatile and stylish option
The mens thobes is a traditional type of clothing worn by men in the Middle East and North Africa and in many other regions around the world. Its use dates back many centuries. This type of thobes is an integral part of the cultural identity of many regions in the world and is often worn for special occasions such as weddings, religious festivals and important events.
However, the thawb is not only reserved for formal occasions. It is also a stylish and practical choice for everyday wear. Made from light and breathable materials such as cotton, linen and silk, the jubbah is perfect for hot and humid climates. It is also easy to care for and can be worn all year round.
On our website you will find a wide selection of dishdasha in different materials, colours and styles. We offer traditional cuts with long sleeves, loose and flowing cuts, as well as modern, more body-hugging cuts with shorter sleeves.
You can choose from a range of materials, including lightweight cotton for summer, or thicker fabrics such as wool or corduroy for cooler weather. We also have a wide range of colours, from classic white and black to brighter shades of red, green and blue.
In addition to their comfort and versatility, jubbah is a way to show respect for cultural traditions and make a statement. The dishdasha is a symbol of pride and respect in the Middle East. It is often worn as a sign of honour and status.
